MAARC shelter works to supplement the system by rescuing adoptable animals from traditional shelters and giving them more time to find the right home. When MAARC saves animals from other shelters it frees up space in traditional shelters, therefore when you save an animal from MAARC you save both the pet you bring home and the pet that gets rescued from the traditional shelter with the room you freed up.
Adoption fees at shelters are very reasonable, they can be up to five times cheaper than adopting from breeders and pet shops. On top of the additional adoption fee, they offer vouchers of neutering and shots when you adopt from a shelter, saving hundreds of dollars in vet fees.
Not everybody is at a point in their lives when adopting a pet is a viable option, but everybody can help the cause in their own way. MAARC is a non-profit organization and they make most of their money from private donations. Seeking veterinary care through their clinics for your current pet is a great way to support MAARC without adopting more animals.
